Angkasa Pura, the State-Owned Enterprise responsible for the management of Indonesia's airports, has committed to develop seven airports across the country in 2020.
More than IDR 10-trillion (approximately USD 700-million) has been allocated to develop seven airports across Indonesia in 2020.
President Director of Angkasa Pura, Faik Fahmi recently told local news wires, "the seven airports that will be developed and under construction are Juanda Surabaya Airport (Terminal 1), El Tari Kupang Airport, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar, Pattimura Ambon Airport, Manado Sam Ratulangi Airport, Lombok Praya Airport, and Jayapura Sentani Airport."
More than just a building
The plans include more than just developing the physical spaces. Key to the success of the country's airport upgrades is "the competency of airport employees" and "accessibility" say Kontan. Fahmi said ensuring a well-built ecosystem for the airport network would "encourage economic growth."
An example of this is with Yogyakarta's International Airport in Kulon Progo, which Angkasa Pura will begin operating at the end of March and include integrated transportation modes such as buses, trains and taxis.
Changi International in Labuan Bajo
In a related move, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Samadi told the Press at the end of last year, that a consortium including Jakarta listed airport service firm PT Cardig Aero Services and Singapore’s Changi Airports International Pte Ltd. have been awarded a 25-year concession to operate Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo.
The consortium will invest IDR 1.2-trillion (approximately USD 86-million) to expand the airport runway, aprons and international terminals. According to Reuters an additional IDR 5.7-trillion will also be invested into the airport’s operations.
